CHENGDU, CHINA – New Energy Nexus and Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University (EIRI) have launched Excel Accelerator, the flagship program of the Energy Internet Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (EIIEC). Excel Accelerator is a growth-stage accelerator focused on supporting Chinese heavy industry and electric utilities.
The Excel Accelerator will select 20 startups, as part of its first cohort, to participate in a series of face to face meetups in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The selected startups will have the opportunity to take part in capacity building workshops and team up with EIRI’s technical and business managers. The goal of the program is to match later stage startups with accompanying corporates such as Siemens, China State Grid, China Southern Grid and CNOOC Tianjin, so they can help develop proof of concept (PoC) projects which could ultimately lead to strategic investment and partnerships. The program will recruit startups building technologies in new energy vehicles, sensors, hydrogen, solar, energy efficiency, IoT and energy storage.
“What makes this program unique is the technical and industry expertise we bring from Tsinghua University for startups as they discuss pilot projects with prospective clients,” says Liu Yi, Deputy Director of Energy Internet Research Institute, Tsinghua University. “As a facilitator, it’s important that we go beyond just an introduction and see the creative collaborations from start to finish.”
“We’re thrilled to be launching Excel with one of the leading energy internet research institutions in China,” says Danny Kennedy, Chief Energy Officer of New Energy Nexus. “The Excel Accelerator will literally let 1,000 flowers bloom in the Chinese ecosystem, and our collective efforts to support entrepreneurs will get us further, faster – we will bring cleaner air, bluer oceans and prosperity for all if we continue to work together.”
The call for applications is now open and will close on June 12, 2020.
Excel Accelerator is joined by a network of partners including ADB Ventures, Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), EnergyLab and the Institution of New Economic Development (INED).
