The New Energy Nexus (NEX) Southeast Asia team has expanded its presence with the addition of three key hires in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Due to its large population and growing GDP, the region’s increased energy needs have called for sustainable localized energy solutions. These hires come at a pivotal inflection point as NEX aims to help foster innovation in the emerging economies and grow the smart energy ecosystem in the region.
In Thailand, NEX has recruited Radtasiri (Bes) Wachirapunyanont who will lead energy accelerator activities with public and private sector partners in the country. Bes has previously worked across Southeast Asia with organizations such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He comes with a strong background in climate finance, renewable energy, and environmental policy. As a former Expert Mentor for RISE Impact – a Bangkok-based accelerator, Radtasiri is already familiar with what it takes to get clean energy startups up and off the ground.
When asked what he’s looking forward to as the Thailand Program Manager, Radtasiri says that he is “extremely excited about building an ecosystem of energy innovation for Thailand and figuring out how like minded partners can get involved”.
In Indonesia, Yen Tijuardi joins the team with almost a decade of experience at ENGIE, where she was leading their innovation activities for Asia Pacific. She has also worked for UNFCCC’s Clean Development Mechanism, developed Independent Power Producer electricity projects, and served as a New Business Incubator. Her expertise for cultivating investment opportunities for smart energy startups also stems from her role within the American IPP company, AES, in their Climate Solutions division. Tjiunardi has an MBA and is currently pursuing a corporate professional course in Innovation and Entrepreneurship with Stanford University.
“Indonesia is at an exciting place today – with a growing number of young, talented, and energetic would-be entrepreneurs who are willing and capable in bringing creativity to solve today’s problems. Clean energy is an area that holds a lot of potential, but often a challenging space to scale within. As part of the NEX Indonesia team, my goal is to support our local clean energy entrepreneurs, startups, and ventures fulfill their potential with access to resources such as mentorship and early stage financing.” – Yen Tijuardi
Finally, Brenda Valerio joins the NEX team as the Philippine Program Manager. Brenda has led the Acceleration Program for the country’s largest tech startup accelerator, Ideaspace Foundation, and has worked with over 200 entrepreneurs and various startups. She has helped design and run Innovation Programs for Intrapreneurial Thinking, Creative Problem Solving and Corporate-Startup Engagement.
Eager to share her expertise with students and graduates looking to enter the workforce, she is also credited as being one of the youngest members of the BEEHIVE Erasmus Plus consortium – an EU funded grant to help Higher Educational Institutions become Entrepreneurial Universities.
